The Voice Awards recognize writers and producers of television, radio and film who give a voice to people with mental health problems. The Voice Awards also recognize the efforts of state mental health professionals and advocates. They are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services and are part of the Elimination of Barriers Initiative.
Cara Hansen, Program Manager of the Health Mind Connection of the Mental Health Association in Milwaukee County, was awarded the Voice Award for Wisconsin. Ms. Hansen served as the human resources subject matter expert as well as a critical reviewer for the EBI's business materials. Through the Health Mind Connection, she has promoted the unified WUMH and EBI message to partners in public and primary health, workforce development, human resources and employee assistance program organizations, and members of her own Healthy Mind Connection Business Advisory Team. Ms. Hansen uses EBI business materials in presentations and trainings for employers and shares her experiences of stigma and recovery with businesses.
