Faith communities have a unique opportunity to support people with a mental illness and their family and educate their communities to do the same. The following is a small sampling of organizations and programs that are trying to do just that.
Faith in Recovery (southeastern Wisconsin based organization assisting communities in developing mental health programs for their membership)
Pathways to Promise (an interfaith technical assistance and resource center which offers liturgical and educational materials, program models, and networking information to promote a caring ministry with people with mental illness and their families. These resources are used by people at all levels of faith group structures from local congregations to regional and national staff.)
Faith & Spirituality (SAMHSA's Resource Center to Address Discrimination & Stigma Associated with Mental Illness)
Ministry, Mental Illness, and Communities of Faith (NAMI)
Mental Health Ministries (an organization started by a minister "with a vision of producing high quality resources to reduce the stigma of mental illness in our faith communities." Videos, brochures and articles available.)
